Myanmar is still relatively untainted by foreigners. We landed in the capital Yangon. It was a mad place where there are no motorcycles - just cars. It is one of the biggest traffic jams you could imagine. You get used to it We managed to visit may sites. The Shwedagon Pagoda was the highlight. One of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world.
I have seen the amazing scenes in Bagan. AKA "Land of 2000 temples". Once I saw the pictures and youtube clips of Taung Kalat(aka Mt Popa), I had to go there.
Taung Kalat/Mt Popa is almost worth the trip on its own. You climb 777 steps in bare feet thru monkey pee and poo to this monastary on a mountain and feel like you are in a James Bond movie.
Later, we hired some electric scooters and went exploring Bagan where there is a temple around every corner. The locals are friendly.
We went off peak("rainy season") and it didn't rain. We had a hotel banquet room to ourselves and we were treated like royalty.
